A wonderful trio of rare antique 19th century French herbal pressed botanicals mounted between glass in contemporary painted wooden frames. Each of the herbarium is catalogued by hand with the latin name of the plant and date. French physician and botanist Joseph Pitton de Tournefort (1656 -1708) is credited with first applying the term herbarium to a collection of dried, pressed plants. In the earliest herbaria, sheets of pressed, mounted plants were bound into books. £1,000 for this set of herbariums, or £2,500 for all three sets (nine frames in total).
