A fine 18th century George III eight day long case clock signed Thomas Green, Bristol Hotwell featuring a beautifully decorated Roman numeral break-arch dial with gilt foliate scrolls beneath an Adam style urn, a subsidiary seconds dial, a arched calender aperture, Corinthian pilasters to the hood, canted corner columns to the trunk, and moulded skirt.

Thomas Green is recorded i n THE CLOCKMAKERS OF BRISTOL 1650-1900 as an apprentice to watchmaker and goldsmith Charles Horwood in 1771. He married Horwood's daughter before setting up business at Chapel Row, Dowry Square, Hotwells, Bristol in 1780 where he stayed until relocating to Portland Place, Clifton in 1815.
